Labyrinth to the Top: Women Architects and the Path to Firm Leadership

2-hr seminar

In Fortune 500 companies only two percent of CEOs are women. Statistics are scarce, but one can assume that in prominent architectural firms, the numbers are similar. Anecdotal evidence supports the existence of a female “brain-drain” occurring in architectural firms of all sizes, as smart and capable women leave for more promising alternatives.

In this highly interactive gathering, participants will be introduced to the current research on women in professional employment, particularly in knowledge-based, technical industries. Demographic information about the participation of women in architecture, at all stages of their career path, will also be presented and discussed. Participants will explore existing barriers to advancement for women in architecture and be introduced to proven strategies that firms can use to retain and provide advancement opportunities to valued women employees. And, there will be ample opportunities for participants to learn from each other’s personal experiences in the architectural workplace.
